My name is Catalina and I live in Argentina.
I'm a proud mum of a wonderful boy, Joel, who is my light and my reason to live each day.
Crafts have been part of my life since I was a child. When I was 8 years old, I started with "Spanish Style Card Making," which is a beautiful technique. Then, with my grandmother's help, I learned to sew and made all the crafts I could, (using every piece of fabric I found in grandma's chest).
I was also into candle and jewellery making while I was a young teen. (Making many bracelets and earrings for my schoolmates).
At the same time, I decided to learn how to make recycled paper. So I made a mould (by stapling nylon screening tightly to a wooden frame) and made envelopes, cards, notebooks, bookmarks and table lamps.
While I was in the last year of my secondary school, I became pregnant. I had to stop making this paper as holding the big buckets of water was too heavy for me, so I made a doll and different wall hangings and mobiles for decorating the baby's room, (all with fabric).
Now Joel is 6 years old and Ive been constantly making this jewellery.
I would now like to share my art with all of you.
I use different techniques in creating your jewellery. Mostly, wiring sheets of alpaca, which I then cut and grind the edges (with a special stone).
Each part of my jewellery is hand-crafted by myself. I only use some bought pieces (E.g. gemstones, Brazilian strings, some Argentinian coins coated with special glazed paint).
The metal used is known as "Alpaca silver" which is a semi-precious alloy of zinc, copper & nickel. It does not rust or tarnish and is hypoallergenic. It compliments the beautiful semi precious stones featured such as turquoise, onyx, agate, sodalite, rose quartz, serpentine, jasper, pink opal and andean opal.
