About Iridology

This science (science, meaning "to learn") of iridology, offers the opportunity for the trained, to analyse the degree of health or imbalance / dis-ease of any person, regardless of age, gender, culture or beliefs. By observing the integrity of the iris' structure, colours, responsiveness, etc., the iridologist is looking to work out a complete picture of the patient's wellbeing. We are not looking for medical names of diseases... we're trying to work out what's dodgey in your mind-body, why that's come about, how best to treat the deficiency or excess that began it and relieve the symptoms as a result.

(I recognise that my way of writing does not sound very "scientific". But, remember that science means to learn. To me, that means to observe, listen and wonder... not double-blind trials etc. Also, most people I serve and care for can understand plain English better than medical terms. Anyway, a herbalist is a health practitioner, not a medical practitioner.)

I'm very grateful to be able to write that my training was under the guidance of Dorothy Hall. As a result, I learned and rely upon her iris map interpretations. There are many maps of irises with varying differences between them. For this reason, some people think that iridology can't be reliable. I disagree. My professional observation has been that I can work comfortably, reliably and effectively using the methods taught to me by Dorothy Hall... and building upon that knowledge empirically with time and practice.

I've now been in practice in The Warrumbungles foothills for roughly a decade and am blessed to enjoy being part of our local community and a strong network of Natural Therapists right across North West NSW.

I love iridology because every iris is unique and changes within it and of it, are dynamic and (mostly) gradual. So, every time I look at an iris, I expect to see some kind of difference to the previous time. Those changes tell us the story of what's going on with the person as a whole. Or more correctly, what imbalances / dis-eases are occurring that have either: been building up, are currently acute or building up for effects to show outwardly in the future. With this information and my other observations and (seemingly) endless questions to follow, I am able to depend upon identifying a "person picture" to then work out corrective strategies for the patient to employ.

Initial consults are a real privilege for me. I can still remember the first time I had iridology done for me. It was like a whole new world opened up for me. An inspiring moment. For the first time I understood that my degree of wellbeing was a direct result of cause and effect (choices I've made) and not simply that bug's decide to set up home in our bodies just for something to do. It was also the first time a practitioner seemed particularly interested in my need to make responsible choices for my own health's sake. (I've been treated by some lovely doctors. But my experience of the modern orthodox medical paradigm of thinking seems much more focussed on making us feel better at the moment, than concerning ourselves with what we might've been doing to encourage the manifestation of dis-ease through imbalance in our lives and thinking in the first place. Let alone, that we are responsible for preventing cause for future dis-ease.) What a shift in thinking. So empowering!

Follow up consults are special because of the professional relationship between practitioner and patient. It's a great privilege to serve (having the trust and respect of) those who choose iridology for helping to identify how to best to maintain their wellbeing.
